Earth + Moon + Sun

Legends in Klary often start with a girl and a boy. The story of the Moon, Sun and the Earth is no different.

Back, waaay back when the Gods created the world they created the Sun and Moon. Two boys alike in their beauty but different in the style. The Sun was a radiant light that shone and gave life to the Earth and it's inhabitants. The rays caused flowers to bloom and gave warmth. The Moon was a suffused light that lit up the night sky and shone for Earth's night creatures.

For many years they lived happily with each other, sharing the sky. One day the Sun invited his brother to share the sky with him and look at the good work that he did.

"Look brother," He said, gesturing to the world. "I give life to plants that feed the animals, and the animals in turn feed the humans." The Moon nodded and agreed that what his brother did was very important. He exchanged the favor and invited his brother to share the night sky with him.

"Look at this brother," He said proudly, "I light the night sky for the Night Hunters, I give illumination to the animals of the night." And the Sun nodded and agreed that his brother was equally as important.

Looking down upon the Earth The Sun watched as the Humans completed their daily chores and started their night activities. One female in particular drew his gaze. He looked quickly at his brother to see if he had noticed her as well.

He had.

Angered that his brother had seen the girl, he stalked off making plans to woo her.

The Moon watched as his brother walked away and smiled to himself. For while the Sun was a good God, he could often become Hot headed and foolish.

The next day The Sun started to try and court her. When she went out to pick wildflowers and berries he shone a ray of light on her, the force of the heat caused her to overheat. Made thirsty by this she went to the brook nearby and began to drink.

Meaning to impress her, The Sun shone on the surface causing it to sparkle. She was blinded by light and turned away from it.

It became like this everyday for weeks, The Sun would try and get her to notice him and everyday she would be hurt by his attempts. The ferocity of his attempts caused the land to dry out, the brooks and streams turning to dust, the crops dying, cattle starving, and animals running thin.

The people had taken to praying to the Gods for help, but the Girl had prayed to the Moon. Asking for his help. Delighted that she had turned from his brother for him, he visited her and talked to her.

She begged him to talk to his brother and ask him to stop tormenting the Earth, and he agreed. For a price.

Taken by her lovelines he proposed to her, and she agreed. If only out of pity for her people.

When The Sun heard of this he grew enraged and vowed that The Moon would NEVER light the sky again. And the battles began, The Moon would eclipse The Sun trying to give the Earth relief from the sorching light. The Earth died little by little, confused by the constant warring of The Sun and The Moon. It continued until the Gods became angry and threatened to take away the Girl if they could not Co-operate. The Sun whined that his Brother had backstabbed him by marrying the Girl, but The Moon denyed it, saying that it was the Girl's choice.

Gaia fed up with the constant bickering divided up the seasons and gave half a year to The Sun, and half a year to The Moon. She told them that they would share the girl. In the Summer The Sun drew out the days to have more time with the girl and in retaliation The Moon drew out the winter nights.
